Hey, erm I recently brought a HP laptop and a Belkin ASDL Modem with a high speed G-Router?

I connected the router too the PC as it said, and the internet works for the main PC, but I only brought it too use the wireless internet through the laptop which doesnt seem to work.

I'm pretty sure that the modem is working properly, all the lights are on, and I can connect too the wireless modem with the laptop, after searching for it. However I just can't use the internet, MSN doesnt work, internet explorer and avent brower just come up with "the page cannot be displayed" screen.

Hmm too set the router up i have too type 192.168.2.1 in the address bar, but it normally just goes too a white page and an error box comes up saying "Internet exploerer cannot download 192.168.2.1/ from DNS" if i do it on the laptop. I'm clueless, ive looked at it all day and nothing has changed lol, any help will be appreciated because I'm going to go insane :- D

Thankyou xx

What does the laptop get for an IP address? Is it configured to get its IP address and DNS server automatically?

I'm not sure, hmm, I've never messed with wireless modems or routers in my life I'm just a wee bit dumb when it comes too it. How would I set it too get the IP address and DNS server automatically?

thanks

Now I'm lost. Do you know what they meant by "Primary DNS server No"? Don't set one or don't set to automatically obtain?

Your modem needs to be in bridged mode to work with your router.. Call belkin and they will help.

Okay, I messed up the main PCs internet for a day but I got it back on.

Hmm, On my Laptop... It says that I am connected too the internet through the wireless network and I have excellent signal strengh. However when I go on internet explorer and type "www.google.com" in the address bar, or any other address, it just comes up with an error box saying... "Internet Explorer could not open the search page", and also in the internet explorer... "This page cannot be displayed". It sometimes asks me too connect too to the internet in the dial up box, where you have too type your account username and password, but I shouldnt have too do that through a wireless network should I? I turned that off with "never dial a connection" in the options, but I still don't connect through wireless.

I dont understand why the internet doesnt work if I'm connected it makes no sence.

Oh and in MSN messenger if i try too sign in... It comes up with a trouble shooter, when I run the trouble shooter theres a list of results what it tests which are:

IP...
Defult gateway...
IE's offline settings...
Hosts File...
DNS...
Proxy Server...
Key Ports...
Wireless...

Theres a tick next too all but "Key Ports", and under that it says...

Failed too connect to the service. This could be due to improper proxy or firewall settings. Please review your proxy and firewall settings. proxy settings can be accessed through MSN messenger options. Fore firewall settings please see the reailer's instructions.

Any ideas?
