webcam help PLEASE

i have this webcam to communicate with family out of town and whenever i open a program while using the webcam; the webcam blacks out. when that happens i have to unplug the webcam and then plug it back in and then it works again. So whenever i am trying to do other things while webcam is running it will blackout. I recently bought a new webcam and still have same problems.

webcam is connected through USB port

please help me, asap!
