I am using Win XP to config my wireless in a local hotel. I have turned off the firewall and the network is unsecured. My computer shows good signal strength but can not connect to the hotels network A message says it can't aquire a IP address but when I bring up the IPCONFIG box it shows an IP address with a submask net. However it doesn't show a default gateway (it's blank) or a conection specific DNS (also blank).
(Forced to use dial up)

Does the Hotel supply the Wireless Internet?
Is it DHCP?
What IP Do you get. If it is 164... then you are not getting a valid IP.

The IP auto configuration address is 169.254.100.100 and the submasknet is 255.255.255.0.0 and the default gatway is blank

Sorry, meant 169 :)
It is the MS default for when an IP cannot be found/assigned.
What is the setup in the hotel. Is it actually broadcasting and you are definately allowed to use it?
Do you have your IP set to Automatic?
