Any movie I download won't play. I'm not talking about a burnt movie that I'm trying to play. I'm talking about a movie I've downloaded and trying to play from my harddrive. It doesn't matter where I've download the file from. I've used bearshare, limewire, kazaa and all the files won't play. I've tried using windows media player, real player and winamp to play the files. None of them will play the files. At first I thought there was something wrong with the specifc file, but after download several different movies and seeing that none of the worked. I know thats not true.
When trying to play in WMP, I get the following error:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
Realplayer says:
An operation failed due to a certification failure.
I've installed codec after codec and nothing is working.

they were .avi and .mpg. The files will play now from the harddrive. But, I have a new problem now. After the movies have been burnt to the dvd+r and played the video and sound is messed up. The sound has a high pitched hissing in the background and it sounds somewhat muffled.
Can someone help me out?
Yes I have the software and hardware.

Well .... if you've burnt them to DVDR, then you must have encoded them .... so it's probably your encoding/transcoding software that's to blame.
Cant comment further, because you ddn't mention what you're using.

Thats what happens when you download movies. you can spend hours downloading only to find that the movie you have is a copy of a copy of a copy.....You should buy the DVD really
Downloading is illegal and you could get fined lots of money:sad:

I'm using Nero-7.0.8.2 / Nero Vison 4 . I just downloaded it, so I'm using the latest version of it.

Normall NVE is pretty reliable, so it shouldn't add any problems.
It could just be as black mirror said, a poor quality rip, maybe a poor TS or a CAM that's been done by a kid in the cinema.
There really is some bad stuff out there, especially on Limewire & Kazza.

Update: The video is now clear, but the sound is still slow and high pitched. Plays fine from the harddrive, but from a dvd+r thats where the sound is messed up.
I burned another fine that I had burned before that worked, and this time it turned out with the sound messed up to. So I'm thinking it has to be codec or a problem with Nero.

Downloading is illegal and you could get fined lots of money:sad: I thought it was only the copyrighted stuff that was illegal to download - I don't think it's illegal to download everything, I download stuff all the time, legally I'm sure.
