I think a problem with Java

For the first problem, it doesn't belong here but didn't want to post two topics. I have this installation CD from Verizon, brand new. Put it in and blank white screen appears. So I cannot install it, however other CD's and software CD's work. Then either in AOL or IE, places like myspace, I click to edit some details and nothing happens. Anyones' help is appreciated. This computer limits me on what I can do just like the problems I mentioned above.
