Question Can't go anywhere on net...

Can't go anywhere on net..

Can connect w/ISP but cannot go anywhere or get my mail after that.

ISP said I must have a firewall stopping my connection to net.

Didn't have trouble until a speed program from ISP kept windows xp from shutting down. I uninstalled that program and problem persisted. Reinstalled it and it was still kerpocked.

ISP said it couldn't be the program.

Any suggestions on what it CAN be?

Here is the error message (which is the same as when trying to get mail without being on line). (names have been changed).

The host 'pop3.kudc.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'drobb', Server: 'pop3.kudc.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Didn't have MS firewall on when problem began but do now (am on dialup). Have avast, adaware & spybot. (Always had them.)

Wondering whether I clicked something when I shouldn't have while trying to get my mail while ISP was down. Thank you.

Have you tested with a different browser?

Is the problem with Dialup or a Broadband account?
In Internet Explorer goto Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Lan Settings>
Make sure Proxy Server is unchecked.

Someone on another forum walked me through the "flush".

Thank you so much for replying.

Now I can get back to work. L
