Heya,
Instead of wasting money buying a usb cable that connects from pc 2 pc, I've been advised to use a LAN cable instead to connect both pc and then I can just transfer files from the "shared" folder or something. How do I go around doing this? Do I need the internet for this?
How do I connect the cables? My LAN is already connected to the router for internet.
And then what happens? An icon showing another pc appears? Or I just share that folder and then the other pc would be able to access it?
Another question, does the computers in cyber cafes use the internet to link games together or LAN... actually what does Local Area Network mean? Could I play a game with a friend without the internet but rather using the LAN cable (as stated above) to connect 2 pc together and then we can just play a 2 player game?
Or is the internet necessary here?
How exactly is the whole connection setup?
What type of router should we get? Why do people keep saying get a 54mbps router rather than a 11mbps router etc... just the same when purchasing a wireless card (although these days with the centrino we don't need them cards anymore).
I'm asking because as far as I understand, let's say I have a 1mbps internet connection...that's the max I'll ever get right? But wireless cards and routers are able to handle till at least 10mbps. So that should be sufficient no? Until my internet connection that I subscribed to increases past 10mbps, it should always be enough..
But people say that it's not enough...and that if I had gotten a 54mbps router I would be able to have a faster connection than the 11mbps router.
But either one is still way above the internet connection I subscribed...
Would appreciate the answer/feedback/opinion/explanation!
Many thanks!
