I have a wireless network which I set up using the network setup wizard in WinXP. It works fine with my laptop. When my son tried to connect to it with his laptop, it asked for the network key. The problem is I don't know what it is. The setup wizard generated the key itself. Is there any way to find it?

the setup wizard usualy will save the details on a usb stick but that will get deleted when the wizard is completed. I think the only thing you could really do is either connect to the router with a wired connection and view the wep encription code and write it down or reset the router to factory default and start again.

However you may be able to run the wireless wizard on the pc without the encription code and then follow instructions. You will need a USB stick though.

I guess I'll have to start again. How do I reset the router? I tried running the wizard again with a USB stick, but after it saved the info to the stick, it said to insert it into the wireless access point (the router, I assume?) and then the other computers, but the router has no USB port. The other option was to set up each computer manually, but I can just see all kinds of complications there!

As far as viewing the wep incription code, how do I do that? I looked everywhere I could think of but couldn't find it.

The wep encription code can usualy be view in the routers config page. But you will need to wire a pc to the router with one of the supplied ethernet or usb cables (depending on the router). By the way the router doesnt need to be connected to the internet to do this so you could bring the router close to a pc, plug it in, connect it using ethernet or usb, and then get into the config page. Whats the make and model of your router?

The router is a Microsoft MN-700. It's connected to the computer (desktop) with an ethernet cable.

With the computer which is connected with the ethernet type 192.168.2.1 into the internet explorer or whatever browser you use. This should bring up the config page (As long as you haven't changed the ip from the default). Then find the security tab or the wireless tab. The wep encription code should be somewhere there. If it ask for a password to get into the config it is usualy admin unless you have changed it
