Hi,
My name is Nitin. I am a graduate student at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). I am conducting a few minutes short survey on "Patterns in Userids" for my research project. We want to study patterns in usernames or userids created by people when they register on different websites, etc. I would be really thankful if you could participate in this short survey. The link is:

I can assure you that this is not a hack or a spam. If you have any doubts, you can also find the above survey link at the Department of Computer Science's research page

I started doing the survey but when it starts by asking for personal information- even if it is optional, forget it.

It is research, from the details on the site, the results could be considered homework, however he needs to gather the raw data to process for his homework, hence the request.
I don't think he is going to do any good with this one, however you never know till you try.

Seriously i won't off link to websites ... but this information in a lesser form is already considered with user accounts... The logic behind it would be 'gray area' software such as account crackers take this into account... With the most common usernames... Just a suggestion if you are really curious on finding more information on common usernames
I would have though this would have been considered as homework
Not really... like was stated its research data collection most colleges have some form of this... mine not excluded... http://usd.sona-systems.com/
Some of the ongoing research studies i have a chance of particiapating with gathering data for is cybersex addiction , and online gaming addiction :D
A downside with doing the survey over a forum like this is you could find alot of people that just wish to ruin the survey... Thats why usually best to try to limit the corruption of data with campus only research or ballots handed out with a drop off box.
