New Problem with Graphics Card

Hello,

Previously I have not had any problems running WoW or Oblivion on my computer.

Recently though every time I launch these games my computer screen will redjust its screen size and end up in standby mode.

Any thoughts on what I can do to solve this?

Thanks

Have you changed anything? Sounds like the monitor is trying to go to a resolution that it doesnt support. Check in your graphics settings to see if anything is set up just for those games. Also I would try installing the latest graphics drivers.

Alright I did that and reinstalled my old drivers that came with my graphics card.
Still no luck.

Is it possible that it is my monitor that is not functioning properly or is it my video card?

More likely to be graphics card but not definetely. I would play with the settings. Try putting the resolution down and try different refresh rate settings (Hz). I would also try re installing the games before trying out a graphics card.

Ok so I have tried a different refresh rate and that just made my monitor go into standby mode (Standard setting was 60Hz, I tried 75Hz).

The resolution changes didnt help anything. Also reinstalling the games had no affect on the problem.

It was weird cause one day everything was perfect then the next day it wont support the games.

Also I am not experiencing any other problems outside of the games. I can run programs that view the models of the games and the graphics card (Geforce 6800 GT) has no problems displaying that.

Also I got this program that launchs the game in window mode and then maximizes it. Doing this makes the game work fine, but launching it in full makes it go into standby.

Is it my monitor?
