Unable to initialize OpenGL

Okay I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled some of my games. I have a radeon 9800 256mb video card. Anyways the game Im trying to play is Quake 4. I have played quake 4 without any problems on my computer before but now when I start it up I get that "Unable to initialize OpenGL" error. I have updated my video card drivers also. Is there a way I can turn on OpenGL? What can I do to fix my problem?
