Try the following...
Choose Insert, Picture, Clip Art or click the Insert Clip Art button on the Drawing toolbar.
Word opens the Clip Art Task Pane.
Search for a specific clip image by entering what you are looking for within the Search field in the Task Pane.
Alternately, click on the Clip Organizer button toward the bottom of the Task Pane to open up the Clip Art Organizer.

thanks for replying so quickly. we've tried all of the above, and clip art opens, but only one choice (one picture) comes up in the task pane after a search.

look at number 4 in my previous post
does a task window open on the right of your screen when you select insert - picture - clipart? If it does, go down to the bottom where it says organize clip... click on that. It will open another window that has all the clipart on your computer and the folders they are in. When that window, click on office collection.

I tried what you advised, and I opened office collection. I went to animals, domestic, and still, only one picture in that file. Several of the other folders have multiple pictures, but clearly not the number on our other computer. Any further ideas? Thanks

maybe not all the pictures were installed.

that's what it looks like. is that a usual situation, and if so, how do I correct it. or would it make more sense to just download some from the net?

you can also go to microsofts website in the office downloads and check for clip art there. or you can subcribe to places like clipart.com and get clipart that way.
