I'm now using windows 2000 Pro as my o.s. and would like to change to windows XP home edition. My hard drive is partitioned into two virtual drives c & d. C contains my o.s. and my data and programes are on d. Is it possible to either install xp over 2000 or should i format c drive and clean install xp. If I do either, will it cause any problems on d drive? Which is the best way to go? As always your advice and direction is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, SP

You cannot upgrade from 2000 to XP Home.

Even if you could it would not be great.
You should save your data (even if it is on a different drive), do a clean install of the OS and install all of your programs.

Since you are migrating from 2000 I would recommend XP Pro. You will have the same Networking options and NTFS Permissions that you will not get with Home.

Also, you could upgrade if to Pro if you really wanted to.

Degsy Thanks for the quick response. I figured I would have to do a clean install of windows XP so I'm glad you think the same way. I suppose to format the drive I would have to use the fdisk program on the boot disk? I was told that the windows XP installation disk allows me to format. Is this true? Which method do you think would be the best or easiest?
Thanks again SP

Use the XP CD to Format (and/or partition) the drive.
