Hello, I just installed windows 2000 over an old 98 system that I had sitting around. Problem is that when I start it up, it gives me two windows 2000 places to choose from on the computer. Not sure what I did wrong but I have two 2000 systems on the hard drive............ Can I delete one and if so how do I do that without loosing any info on the other , any help is appreciated thanks.............

Do you definately have two systems?
Do the two items load different operating systems?
Here is the info to remove the item from the list

The first install has all the orginal icons on the desktop and the viewer display says that it has only 16 colors. While on the second install the display viewer has 256 bit color. I did install a different video card before hand. The two choices have all the same document files......... So Im not really sure that there are two systems on the machine. Not much help im sure

You have two OS' installed.
One in the WINNT folder and another in the Windows folder.
You need to work out which you want to keep. Then remove the other from the boot.ini file, remembering to set the correct default. See the instrutions in the link.
You can then delete the redundant OS folder from Windows explorer.

Thanks very much for your help, in trying to decide which one is the good vs the bad,,,,,,,,,, when I start up the good one is at the top of the 2 choices. when I go to the boot ini file the default is the winnt os........would it be a good guess that the first choice on startup is that one,,

No, the default could be either.
Change the boot ini
e.g.
Multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="WINNT" /fastdetect
Multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="Windows" /fastdetect
You will then know which you want to keep when you boot up.
