Couldn't resist bragging. I've been on the low end of PC's for so long. I had one K62-333 128mb and a p-200 64mb. I got a lot of pleasure networking them and trying different OS's, etc., but all in all I always wanted something that would be nearer the apex of the curve.

Well this last week after pricing and buying (crying too) I finally did it and actually got it to work. (Well the network cards being stubborn.)

I am now the proud father of my first totally home built machine. "No my wife didn't give birth."

Specs of child: Asus K7V-T Main Board, AMD Thunderbird 1 gig processor, 256MB RAM, 30 gig Maxtor 7200, 300 Watt supply, side mounted case fan and power supply fan and new graphics card and network card. New CD-ROM and swapped in my Yamaha CD-RW.

I'll reconstruct my old K62-333 with my old cd-rom, an 8gig Medalist drive, 128MB RAM and my old Voodoo3D 2000 graphics card for my wife. It'll be a surprise to replace her old p166 40MB RAM, 540 MB drive, 8x cd-rom machine. It'll be a good improvement for her.

I'm in pc hog heaven and just had to share it with you good folks who know what it means to junkies like us.

Thanks for indulging me.

I know it's still not and never will be the top of the line but for me it's a keeper. It Blazes!! :D :D :D :D :D

glad to hear it mate...
it feels like such a great accomplishment doesn't it?

as far as being top of the line...I don't see any application within the next 5 years being so CPU intenseive that someone would NEED a 2GHz CPU...
at least for a home user...
my PC is only a 933 and that should last me at least another 5 years...

Thanks, that's exactly what I said when I bought the 333 processor. That'll be good for a long, long time.

Welllllllllllllll.

Looking good griffinspc... :D :D

Just curious...how many partitions on that drive? I have a similar WD model and went with 3 equal partitions. Then I saw a post from Train (I think) about cluster sizes and partition sizes. I didn't fully understand it, but he seemed to have a formula of sorts for the most efficient use of drive space.

Of course, I drink...so I may have imagined it. :D :D

PS...I 'm still hoping my 400 Celeron machine will be good for a while longer. ;)

Feel free to add your system(s) to this thread, "What's your system..."

Thanks for the kudos guys and gals, it feels great. Maxx, I set it up this way: 1800 MB "C" active boot partition, 12,500 MB application partition "D", and 3 equal size partitions of "E "F" "G". I'll use E for music storage, F for secure copies and my whole catalogue of installer software, service packs, etc., which I have a ton of and G for a copy of my other machines complete drive. (At least I think that's what I'll do at the moment.)

I decided to use the jumpers rather than the BIOS setup and set it up as the non-overclocked mode for awhile but who knows. After a shake out............

I'm going to try a different slot tonight for that NIC and see what happens.

I love it.
