Has your computer ever woke you up making this sound like it wanted to start up.
Computer went clickity clack over and over, we had no idea what was going on, my computer was shut down too, I think I remember the tower light trying to blink (keep in mind this was way in the Am and I was half asleep) This has never happened before. Do any of you know what may have caused this? My heat was set low and it did get cold last night. I know temperature can effect computers.
Is there something I should check?
Thanks so much!!

Is that dangerous as in a fire ? Where is the start circuit?
DO I need to shut down my computer when I leave my house or at night at the power strip? I hate to do that
I had to go out and I shut down and clicked off the power strip and when I got home and cut back on the power strip it made an awful sound like alot of static and I mean alot of static. What could it be????
I just scanned for a virus and none found.I also just disconnected and reconnected all wires to and from the tower and power cord thinking there may be friction someplace.
Thanks

Take a can of compressed air that you can get at most places that sell computer stuff. Shutdown & unplug your computer. Take the cover off & blow all the dust out of it making sure you blow out the power supply real good. Clean the fan blades ect ect.
If you have done that al ready then it could be a bad on/off switch shorting out..Good luck..

hi
do you have to power off (at the powerstrip) your computer and monitor when you leave the house?
one answer.
YES
monitors and TV-sets are firehazards when they are in doze or stand-by mode.
modern computer power supplies do not shut off when you hit the front off button.
they are keeping some power on in the computer
I switch off power on my surgeprotector each time I shut the machines off.
anyway, you hear frizzling noises?
cut back on the power strip it made an awful sound like alot of static and I mean alot of static. What could it be????
doesn't sound good.
something is going on its way out, I am afraid.
power supplies are not too expensive, and not too hard to replace.

oh ok. so you think I need a new power strip?? Any recomendations? for a computer and all its stuff? I have a super walmart and big K -mart here and radio shack which is high lol lol.
yes I heard frizzing noises or static when I cut back on from the strip but when I did it this morning it was fine, I will post back in the morning .
Thanks to all of you.

Hi again
I was under the impression that it you heard the power supply in the computer make this frizzling noize.
Many moons ago we discussed powersurges.
Now, if you plan on replacing the powerstrip, why not get a computer grade surge protector?
a good quality surgeprotect with phoneline in and out, and coax in-out can save your PC one day.

Sorry to confuse you guys I am confused myself, the other night when it woke us up it was a click clack popping noise (keep in mind it was early in the AM and I was half asleep and just wanted to make sure my computer was not on fire so I reached up and punched the tower button as it seemed to b trying to come on as it was not off at the power strip itself.
then when we went out I turned it off at the power strip and when I returned and cut it on again at the strip I heard like frying and fizzling noises (my interpretation) and it cleared up and I cut it off again last night at the strip and cut it on again this morning and all is well.
Like I said I disconnected and reconnected all wires to and from the tower and power cord thinking there may be friction someplace.
So there you have it, I would think if it was my computer itself I would not be able to even get on line, I just have a little cheapy strip not the cheapest or the best and I have added a scanner recently so I am thinking power cord here.
Thanks again

If all of your puter junk is plugged into a cheap power strip and the power strip is plugged into the wall socket: "IT'S AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN"
Get a SURGE PROTECTOR and plug it into the wall socket then the power strip into it. Even cheap power strips have a circuit breaker built in, that may of gone south and that is what you heard.
You cannot be over protected for example:
My system is plugged into a Surge Protector (Belkin SurgeMaster), due to too many gadgets, I also have a power strip. The Belkin Surge Master is plugged into another Surge Protector which is plugged into the wall socket. The power strip is also plugged into the wall surge protrector. Over protection YEP, but better safe then sorry.
