Picture Problems

I have Win2000..and whenever I try to save a picture from the internet to my computer it only gives me the option of bmp and art files.
Then when I save as either and try to open the picture it says that it is an art file and nothing can read it. I keep getting the cursed red X...help please..
Is there anything I can do?

.art is the AOL pic format.. you wouldn't happen to be running AOL would you??

Try cleaning out your temp and temp internet folders.. Now try saving them as a jpg..

Yes I'am running Aol..I did that and now I can only save it as a bmp.
I'm really hating Aol more and more...ugh..

Goto the AOL preferences and uncheck the compress images option.

I would if I knew where that was...sorry..I'm running 9.o Optimized SE...anyone know how to turn off the compress images option? I have looked everywhere..

I don't use AOL. Check the help or support for the program.
