I have a computer with Windows 2000 Professional. When it boots up,just before it reaches the login prompt, it reboots.

It will boot up in safe mode, but not on last known good configuration.
I disabled the auto reboot on system failure to no effect.
When I try to use the event viewer in safe mode it says "The interface is unknown".
I tried running Mcaffee virus scan in safe mode, but it gets part way through the scan and reboots the computer.

Help?
Thanx,
James Mullican

Hello James,
This Can be a certain things. What I would do is Remove the Usb Hardware if any and then if I had DSL or high Speed, Would boot in to Safe mode with Networking (aS Internet works in this mode) and then run a online scan from House call.
There is another option from Trend Micro and it does WORK(100% success in my cases)~ Download Sysclean.exe from sysclean.notlong.com and then download the updates virus definitions from syscleanupdate.notlong.com. You download the Virus definitions for Windows.
After the downloads. Create a folder Sysclean. Extract the virus definitions in that folder (Will need Winzip in case you dont have any other unzipping software).Add sysclean.exe in that as well.

Just click on the sysclean.exe and it will do its work, Run a scan and remove the viruses, malaware or any thing which might be affecting.

Try these steps and get back to us in case this does not help!! Have many other steps.

**Also try to download the msconfig from msconfig.notlong.com.
Disable the startup items and all the Third party services but use this only in case you are Computer Savvy.
