Initial boot is sooooo sloooooow(2 to 3xs what it should take). All programs, audio, visual, etc. are herky-jerky and slooow. When I click shut down/re-start, everything comes up smooth and fast. All computer functions appear normal on reboot.
I have tried booting with DMA on both the cd-rw and the cd drive. I have also turned off DMA on both cd drives. No change in behavior. What can be causing this oddity, and how can I fix it so I do not have to contiue this painfull 2 boot process just to have my computer behave as it should?

I have built the computer from scratch and everything appears to be fine except for this odd behavior and 2 redundant entries in the device manager.

Redundant entries:
-Monitors
-Default monitor
-Default monitor
-Univeral Serial Bus Controlers
-SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controler
-SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controler
-USB Root Hub
-USB Root Hub

I have removed all of these entries and refreshed them. They always come back in duplicate. I don't know whether the 2 issues are even related but I thought I would at least mention it.

I have been using the computer for several weeks and as long as I boot and them reboot everything continues fine.

What adjustment does the computer make when I shut it down and it restarts that allows normal operation? How do I correct this quirky behavior?

Thank you all very much .

David

Try removing all the entries for each device that has a duplicate (instead of just one) and see if it installs only one when it detects it on a reboot

I have removed both entries at the same time and it always installs the drivers again in duplicate.:grit:

hi
you normally do that removal while in windows safe mode.

two usb root hubs could be normal
two monitor entries can also be normal
nvidia geforce cards with TV-out (and even those that don't have that) will install your normal display and a default display
but, if it install two default displays, it appears you have to properly install the drivers for the videocard, and you should try find the correct driver for the display as well.

plug and play monitor is gonna work, but when you have a powerful videocard you are missing some settings the display can handle.

in any case, this looks like you have to look at drivers.

what sort of machine is this?
what hardware do you have?
what brand and model of monitor? videocard?
