All games minimize just after starting

I am running Windows XP with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. I have had this setup for about 3 years now. It has run fine up until a few weeks ago. My daughter tried running some of her Dora games and each one minimizes just after it starts up. I can maximize it and sometimes see the game screen but it always minimizes again. I started COD2 and it was fine. I downloaded the demo for GRAW (Ghost Recon 3) and it minimizes just after starting. I tried COD 2 again and it is now doing it.

I was running an older Omega driver so I installed the latest ATI drivers and that didn't help. I re-installed Direct X as well and that didn't help. I also tried a newer Omega (but based on ATIs 6.3 Catalyst driver) and that didn't help.

I pulled the video card out and re-installed to make sure it was seated properly and that didn't help.

I don't see any system errors in my log.

I can run Punch AS3000 software which does have a 3D mode but in a Windows window and not full screen like a game does.

What is going on? What can I do to troubleshoot further?

Found it. It was my folding@home client. The strange thing is this setup has been working for a long time. I don't what has changed. I do know that if I close folding@home the games work now.
