Games Are Very Laggy For Me

Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help me. One of my games is really laggy. I play alot of games, but this one is the only one that seems to be very laggy.

What could it be? Are there too many programs running in the background and if so, I'm sure which ones I can turn off. I don't have a lot of free space left on my computer, but that was never a problem before.

This is my system:
AMD Athlon(TM)XP 2100+
1.73 GHz
1.00 GB of Ram
ATI Raedeon 9200

The svchost.exe mem usage is 30,432, but I have like 2 more of those as well. And the CPU number stay around 97. Is this normal. I don't know about this.

Someone please help me. Thank you.

Are you going to tell us which game it is, or do we have to guess?

Which process is causing the most CPU usage? Is that while idle, or while the game is running?

The svchost.exe is causing the most CPU usage. For idle and while game is running. I just realized something that could be the problem. It could be my modem. I was on the login screen of Guild Wars just now, and it was laggy, music skipping. I turned my modem off, and everything started running smoothly. But I need the modem on to play. I have a tech coming in a few days to check it out.

Well, got my modem changed. It is a little better. But could it be that I need more RAM? I have 1.0 GHz right now. And if so, could you recommend one to me at an affordable price?

1GB of RAM is fine, the CPU is a little slow but not terrible, the graphics card is a little slow too. Make sure you close any unused programs, and you should probably check for malware too.
