Open a command prompt window.... (start>run. Type in cmd.) At the prompt, type in ....
cd desktop (Hit the enter key.) The prompt should now say C:\docs and settings\yourusername\desktop> Now type in.... dir (Hit enter.) You should see a listing of the files on your desktop. Look for the ones that you want to delete and take note of their name and extension. We will shorten those names, but use the extension. As an example, if the filename is...... thisisonelongfilename.exe, you will make it...thisis~1.exe You are taking the first 6 letters, adding a ~ and the number 1. Then add the extension. Do this for each one. So, now type in ..... del filename When you are finished with each file, type in exit. |

Thanks, mtbird, for your quick response to my problem.I followed your instructions but the results were:Could Not Find C:\Documents And Settings...Each one of the shortcuts was listed but the command could not find it.I should note that each one of these shortcut filenames is more than 215 bytes long.A sample of one is as follows: bedroom sets, bedroom furniture, platform beds, modern bedroom furniture...and on and on.At the command prompt I typed in: del bedroo~1.url Then hit enter. The response was Could Not Find C:\ Documents and Settings\ Guest\ Desktop\ bedroo~1.url

Wow, that's very odd that it won't delete from there.
Give this little program a try. It gives you two methods for deletion..... http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm |

Whew ! Glad that worked for you. Very weird that you couldn't get it through a command prompt, but it's done now
