when i go online and open a web site, it opens to full screen, but if i click on a link within the site (any site) it only opens as a box in the taskbar (minimized) and i have to right-click on the box to get a pop-up menu, then click maximize to get it up on the screen. this also happens for links sent in emails through my outlook express. internet explorer homepage opens to full screen. have windows 98se, IE6. been trying to solve this for several weeks now and no one seems to be able to help...very frustrating. hope someone here has an idea? thanks

Hi rebel56 - welcome to CTH.
Try this, rightclick on a link and choose the 'Open in New Window' option. Close the original IE window that was open and drag the borders of the second window to fill the screen (Do not use the maximize button). Hold the 'CTRL' key and click 'X' to close the window. All links should now open maximized.
If that doesnt work try dragging the Taskbar up until it is twice its size, open your link and close your orginal window. Now maximise your link and let it settle into the Taskbar and then resize your Taskbar to its original height.
Let us know if either option helped.

What also works (and don't ask me why) is:
When you've opened IE and then clicked on a link that opens in a "less-than-maximized" window, close any window(s) that are maximized, leaving only the window that is not full size, then right-click on the taskbar and choose Tile Windows Horizontally.

Annmarie and GretaP...got the links to open to full screen. i tried your suggestions, but they didn't seem to do anything. at least not at first. i finally figured it might be related to a pop up ad stop program i tried that expired. i deleted all the files i could find associated with that program, and today my computer works fine. i guess people should beware of Pop Up Stopper Companion. Thanks for your help, and i am sure i'll be back with more problems soon... as i am rebelwithoutaclue.
