Hello
I have Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 but I am having difficulties in running an application that I need. The application will run only on 32 bit system. It is very important for me to have the application to work correctly, so I would like to "downgrade" my server from 64 bit edition to 32 bit. I have no problems to re-install the whole system with a new 32 bit system, except for legal reasons. I found at microsoft's website an article about downgrade rights: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windowss...de-rights.mspx It seems that it is legal to install a fresh copy of Windows 2000 Advanced Server. I assume that it would be a 32 bit version of Windows 2000 Server. My question is, will it be legal to install a Windows 2000 Advanced Server just like that, or I need to follow a special process for legal reasons (such as obtaining a new cd-key)? Will my current 2003 cd-key will work on Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and the only thing I need to do is to install it? Please reply to this topic, this problem must be solved quickly. |

After reading the EULA, I found out that section 7c says:
"you may downgrade Windows Server 2003, Standard x64 Edition to Windows 2000 Server, or to Windows NT Server 4.0; and you may downgrade Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition to Windows 2000 Advanced Server, or to Windows NT Server 4.0, Enterprise Edition. You must completely remove any such earlier version and install the Server Software within a reasonable time." It means that I AM allowed to downgrade my 64 bit to Windows 2000 Advanced. The only question left is whether it is possible to use the same product key or I have to get a new one (somehow) |
