Net framework

I have a couple of problems and im not sure if theyre related, I keep getting this error message:
Please set registry key HKLM\software\microsoft\.NETFramework install root to point to the .NETFramework install location.
When I click ok it goes away, but it comes back every so often and freezes the computer.
When i try and open something up,alot of the time it wont open, so i keep clicking on it until I freeze, then I ctrl alt delete, and the thing im trying to open is listed a bunch of times and so is this : CMPDPSRV, which is something new. The only thing I found about it was that it was a mfc application. Microsoft foundation class. Most the time its not responding when i ctrl alt delete, so im pretty sure thats the problem. I cant find this anywhere on my computer at all. So how can I get rid of it. When I start up it s there. But when i go to msconfig it doesnt show up there. I see nothing new in the installed program list either. Im using windows 98 se. Thanks

Sorry, I'm not too terribly familiar with .NET Framework, but it sounds as if some application that you're running or attempting to run requires it to be installed. If you poke around here you might find some more information about it.

As to the CMPDPSRV, seems it's part of something called Printer Driver Plus from ViewAhead Technology, and is installed with some Compaq and Lexmark printers.
