Windows Service Pack File is Corrupt
Where to begin? I've reformatted the drive and verified (in another computer too). It's good. I install a fresh copy of Win2k and when I try to install the service pack it failes with the message "File is corrupt". I've tried running through Windows update and downloaded the network install. Nothing seems to work.
It isn't just win2k either. I have also tried win98. Apps keep crashing (like firefox) and large files do not want to unzip. I dl'ed the demo of Ghost Recon and it fails to extract (file corrupt or damaged). I've set the bios to failsafe and I have the latest version of Symantec Antivirus with all updates. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

I've tried this several times with different formats. NTFS, Fat32. It doesn't matter which OS (98 or Win2K) or which format.
I didn't always have this problem with this computer. It started after a clean reinstall after I had used the computer for a year or two. I'd chalk it up to bad hardware but I would really like to know first before I spend money replacing things. I've always thought the MB was the culprit but it could be the memory too, I suppose. Then again, it may well be something I never considered.
