Cant download programs...

Hi -

Ive turned everywhere and no one seems to be able to help...

I just downloaded WIndows 98 Second Edition Update.

Now, for some reason, EVERY file or program that I try to downloading is downloading as a "Quicktime" file.

I cant download ANYTHING, because for some reason my computer tries to download every program as a Quicktime video.

How do I change this or fix this???

Thanks so much...

Keith

Hi, Welcome to CTH..

1st If you downloaded Windows 98 from an illegal sight, do not post where you got it here.

Did you download the W98SE operating system or a patch or supplement? If this is the case then the web sight you downloaded from screwed with your system, most of the so called "Warez" sights will do that. anyway...

You may of also picked up a virs.

The first thing to do is run a virus checker.

You have a file association problem..You must of recently installed Quicktime..

Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Multi-media and select Active Movie Control.

That should let you un-check the box for Associating .MOV files with ActiveMovie.

Then, from any Explorer window, do View/Options/FileTypes tab, and find QuickTIme movie or VideoClip(MOV) and see what it is pointing to (probably RUNDLL32).

If you reinstall QuickTime 2.1.2, it should repair the filetypes.

Did not mean to be, your wording of the post "just downloaded WIndows 98 Second Edition Update" led me to believe that.

Sorry, to imply that you did.

Let us know if the fix does not work, we can look elsewhere.
