Hi All,
A Strange thing has been happening over the past month, I've been receiving a lot of "Mail Undeliverable" reports (around 20 a day), my first though that my PC was being used as a "Zombie" but no virus etc was being picked up on Norton 2005 or Adaware. About 2 weeks ago I had a Windows protection error problem that I was unable to clear (posted on this forum), PC repair man could find no way around it either, so the hard drive was wiped and 98 was installed (was running ME, that's another story) along with AVG antivirus and Adaware but I'm still getting the Mail Undeliverable reports.
Now I've finally got to the question I wanted to ask, is it possible a spammer is using my E-mail address ??

Regards, Gosub.

Is the mail showing 'undeliverable' a real piece of mail you sent to someone?
Is this a Damaen error for non-delivery?
You'll get those returns with bad, wronge, changed addresses. Or even when sending to hotmail or yahoo if mail boxes are full.
Just a thought.

Nick,
No, these are not E-Mails I've sent to people, they are mainly "Mailer-Demon" type undeliverable errors but also from companies as well. From the short report given with most returns, the failed E-Mail is Spam. As I'm not sending them, who is ????????

Howdy:

You've probably been spoofed !!

There are a pile of virus/malware out there that will look into the Contacts List of an infected system and select an email address from there at random and place that address in the "From" box of new email..

It will then proceed to send itself via email to everyone else in the infected systems address book..

Email that can't/doesn't get through gets sent back to "guess who" ?? Yep, the address in the "From" box..

There is very little, if anything, you can do about this until the infected system is found and cleaned..

Murray,
Is there anyway I can find out what file/folders are causing this, as I said the antivirus and Adaware are'nt picking it up.

It isn't your system so there is nothing for you to find..

The problem is someone else's computer that has your email address in their contacts list!!

Doh !! Understand now, best thing I suppose is to set incoming mail filters to junk these "undelivered" reports, I never get any genuine ones as I rarely send E-Mails.
