Unhappy Internet problem!!

This is kind of a weird case, and I will try to explain it the best I can. Last summer I built myself a computer. Antec tower, LAN Party motherboard, with all custom parts added. I took this machine to school and plugged normal CAT5 cord into it, then into the wall, and the internet worked perfectly. Recently, I just moved back home. The computer is in my bedroom right now and my dad, who is an electrician, plugged a cord into the room below me, which is the computer room, and ran in up into my room. Well, when i plugged the CAT5 into my wall, then my computer it kept flashing "Local Area Network Unplugged" over and over again, because I would get internet then it would go so fast, but overall i would have no internet. Now originally I thought the problem was the cord in my wall. BUT when I plugged a CAT5 into my wall, then my laptop, the internet is fast and fully operational. I looked at the back of my computer where the CAT5 plugs into and it is not loose or anything. And right now im on it because i dont' know how long the internet will last for. DSoes anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be and or how to properly take care of this matter? Thank you for your time.

So you have a laptop and a desktop, and the laptop works correctly using the same patch cable that you used to connect the desktop?

Yes The laptop works flawlessly with the same CAT5 cord, and the desktop goes in and out of connectivity.

I would try to re install the NIC drivers which come with the LANParty disk. I would also try using a standard short CAT5 connected to your router (Doesnt need to be connected to the internet) to see if the problem remains.

Did you check to see if a shorter cable stops the problem with your PC?

A shorter cable can make a difference. When you are using very long cables the signal can become very weak, and even though 1 pc is ok with it another one might not be. If you have tried a small 2 metre cable and it doesnt make a difference then it sounds like a faulty network card. You could try to uninstal it in device manager and then re install. When it asks for the drivers they will be on your LanParty disk.
