trend micro housecall
i tried to us the free trend micro houscall to scan for any spyware etc. and i couldnt read their terms of usage page and then tried to exit their site and the window froze and i had to shut off my computer and restart it. and when i restarted it half the icons on my desktop came back with just the internet explorer icon and the picture icons for all the sites were gone. any idea what happened and how to get back my icons?

Hmmmmm. Never seen housecalls do that.
Try booting to regular dos and at the c: prompt type scanreg/restore Choose the date you first had this problem or day prior, hit ok and when finished reboot system. This will give you an older working registry. It will probably clear up any probs housecalls gave you. Good luck.

thank you for the reply nick . i did the reg/restore and it did bring back one of the favicons, miz gave me some info on favicons and i have a better understanding now of what i am dealing with. maybe, not for sure but housecalls may have deleted some temporary files and that may be where my icons or favicons went?
