I just built a new computer for my family.. but unlike all the others I have built, It is having boot up problems, It started out beeping 3 times then nothing would show up on the monitor, so I would restart, and about every 4 restarts it would work, the other three times it would just beep 3 times and not show anything, I moved it to the living room this morning, and now It wont boot up at all, a little green "dimm" light shows up on the motherboard but thats it, no fans no anything to show that it even has power besides the case lights and the "dimm" light.. any ideas?

Thanks in advance.. and by the way

The computer is running a old 36x cd rom a 40gig 7200 rpm wd hard drive, a gigabyte ga-7dx+ motherboard and a amd t-bird 1.1chip .. and 256 mgs of ddr 2100 ram

What BIOS do you have? Is there a sequence to the beeps, like one long two short?

1 long + 3 short beeps points to a video card problem. Do you have another video card that you can swap to test it?

One more question before I swap out cards, is there any way that the comp was what friend to card... or is there any danger in putting in the card I have in my other comp,
