icons

still having trouble with my desktop icons. last nite i went to trend micro houscall and tried to get free scan and was unsuccessful , but when i tried to read the user agreement my pc froze up and i had to shut it off , and when it came back on in safe mode i then restarted the pc. after restart the desktop came back up , but my icons for instance for new egg were replaced with the internet explorer icon, still works and all to go to website but like i said the new egg icon was gone, as were other web icons. what i tried to do then was scan/ regrestore and that was no help. then i tried to take each site and readd it to my favorites list and then create shortcut to desktop to get icon back and it worked for some but not for all. this has to be something simple but as i am not that great a problem solver with the pc i am now at a loss and any help is welcome. also thank you nick granna for your reply for this problem.

1) Turn your computer on
2) Press F8 until a menu comes up
3) Press option 5 (Command Prompt)
4) @ the prompt enter "scanreg/restore"
5) Select a date from BEFORE THIS HAPPEND..

It should be fine....

Good luck

The icons you're having trouble with are called "favicons." Click Here to open a page with a good explanation of how they work and how you can make them permanent.

I don't know what caused them to all revert to the default IE icon at once but in the information on that page should help you keep it from happening again.
