Hopefully this has happened to someone else and they will be able to shed some light on this problem.
I am using Windows 2000 pro sp4 on a Dell C600 laptop. I installed a Buffalo turbo G wireless adapter. During the installation, Windows created "Local area connection 5". Everything is fine for a while and I can connect to AP's that use DHCP which allows me to connect to the internet. I was at my local library, on the internet, when after 15-20 minuets I am suddenly disconnected. An Icon appears with a red X through it. Hovering the mouse over it produces a "Local area connection 5 network cable unplugged" warning. I then open my network places and Rt. click on the little icon but it will not remove the red X. The only way I could get it to work again was to to disconnect the wireless adapter and then connect it again. Once this was done everything was back to normal.
This situation occured previously when I was using an adapter card purchased from Ebay. Thinking it was a faulty card, I replaced it with the Buffalo adapter, but the problem persists.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.
