I love this thing!

Bought one of these a few months ago:

(Yamaha Zuma)

Man is it a blast to ride! No shifting, and I figure I'm getting about 100 miles to a gallon. The seat pops up to expose a suprisingly large storage area.

I Love this thing

Is it one of the ones that is under a certain horsepower rating in order that you don't require a licence to drive it?

Looks cool and ya gotta like the 100 mpg

Cost of gas where I live in Canada = $1.05.5 per litre

Yup, 49 cc, so all you need is a learners permit. (Top speed is 65 kmh)

Scooters sure have come a long way. Turns heads where ever I go.

Actually, I can't say for sure about the gas consumption. But with something this light and only 49cc, it's incredible on gas!

It costs about $3.00 to $4.00 to fill (Cdn), I ride it just about everyday and fill up every couple of weeks. Insurance is $10.00 a month!

those things are "grin a minute", love blasting around on them.
Have the immense good fortune to have a cousin who owns a big dealership (Honda and Suzuki) so I get to play on a broad range of iron, from the 1800cc 'Wing down to the chicken chasers (as scooters/mopeds) are known in these parts.

Hottest Selling Vehicles in Canada

These little screamers are the number one sellers all across Canada these days; what with the Gas prices and all.

Snurfen,

Have you ridden a 400-650 cc chicken chaser? I'm also looking into the fuel cell and electric mopeds. Some of the higher end electric ones have so much torque that they'll beat most motorcyles off the line.

Lamberts,

Where did you get that stat? I'd like to read the article. I've lived in Lethbridge, Alberta (pop 75,000) for about 10 years. Last summer was the first time I'd seen someone on a "scooter". But so far this summer, I've seen about five new riders. I'm going to begin flagging them down and start a "scooter gang".

Scooters

There was an article on CBC NewsWorld last night and they had indicated the huge surge in purchases (at least here in Ontario) that had apparantley eclipsed the "Big 3" auto sales lately.

I live in a very, very small lakeside country village where everyone owns a truck; not many scooters here.

Starting to see lots in a neighbouring community; Peterborough and in Toronto they are everywhere.

yep, had a go on both the honda and suzuki mid-range jobbies. I think the honda was 400 or 450 and the suzy was 600. Went like hot-snot, fair play. Bit wierd chucking it into bends feet first!
Both would be excellent commuters, as they could easily both take a briefcase or laptop bag under the seat. Good weather protection(ish) and would carve the traffic up nicely as they are pretty nimble and narrow. Plus they would crack along at 70-80 on the open road.
