Lately, I've been having trouble with many applications randomly having errors, including: AIM, Spybot, AVG, computer games (most often), Ad-Aware, and LimeWire.
I'm not sure what I need to include or say, since I'm new here. Although, I'm almost 100% positive I do not have any adware, spyware, trojans, etc, as I use Spybot with TeaTimer, AVG, and Ad-Aware at least once a week. I've had my HJT log checked, which displayed nothing suspicious. What bothers me most is DirectDraw and Direct3D errors, which prevents me from playing computer games. xD
Anyway, I'm thinking it's just an old installation of Windows aging.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
Do you have specific error messages for each application?
If so what are they?
Cheers

They either crash and I return to my desktop with no prompt/error message, I get an error saying "Unable to initialize Direct3D/DirectDraw.", or I get an illegal operation error.
Do you want the text that the illegal operation error prompt contains?

F8 when computer starts up_before windows 98 boots- go to command prompt only type exactly without quotes at the C:\ prompt "scanreg /fix" once done (this also compacts your registry) and at the command prompt again, type without quotes "scandisk" your choice to scan the total harddrive for Bad sectore (it will take a very long time if you have a huge HD so that's why its up to you on that one), reboot or at the c:\ prompt type without quotes again "win" this will forward you into the windows 98 GUI.

I have experienced the whole "illegal operation" windows pop-up signs on all modules, it is a common fault in windows 98 & windows 98SE and it closes Internet explorer nor your current window. The problem is that your OS is out of date and is old, to overcome this problem you must perform a Scan Disk check every week, and this will scan your files for errors/fualts. Update Windows 98/98SE and download IE 6. and this will tackle the problem.
