Which is the best registry cleaner? I currently have Windows Registry which I purchased 2 yrs ago and have not renewed. When I do the free scans on other cleaners I get different results of how bad my reg. is.
Also which is the best computer fix program. I have tried to download PCDoc Pro and my zonelarm shuts down the internet service thinking I have a hacker.
Am also having trouble with axtivex control. Can not even figure out IF I have it, some programs like PCPitstop do not load and 8 months ago they did.

Which is the best is all personal opinions. I personally use ace utilities but you can go to download.com and do a search for registry cleaners and find all kinds of them with cnet and user reviews. As far as the differences as to what is found, they all do things a little different and will look for different things in the registry.

The reported "errors" from registry cleaners aren't actually errors. They're just stuff like unused file extensions and uninstaller references. If you actually had registry errors, chances are your computer wouldn't even boot up, or you would be getting specific errors displayed.

I use Ccleaner for a registry "cleaner", and so hundreds of my customers. They all love it, and it has other cool tools in it, like an amazing hard drive / Internet Explorer cleaner. The program is free and can be downloaded from my below link.

Like any registry utility, make a backup before applying any changes.

no offence but CCcleaner is crap!!! reg cleaner is the best ive used and easy you can use all the other commands from CCcleaner from a simple windows prog (it really is crap ;) CrapCleaner hahahahahah

Not to mention, all the times a poster began with, "I just used Regcleaner and now my computer won't start". I've never once seen that with Ccleaner.

Yes, sorry about that Smiley. I don't usually resort to such measures, however in this case I really felt compelled to.

Anyway, if you're investigating a registry cleaner to increase system performance, then there are far better ways to achieve that goal. If you're interested in such, please let me know and I'd be happy to assist you.

when you use any registry cleaner, it's important to use a bit of common sense.

no software product that works on the registry can absolutely guarantee that it will not break applications that you wish to keep. It's important to read through every item the programs find and use your common sense. When in doubt, google, or just don't remove it. Using a registry cleaner combined with common sense hasn't failed me yet :)

I agree with the previous statement. Before using any registry cleaner, be sure to have your restore points turned on and to create a restore point just prior to the cleaning. Some registry cleaners can cause major problems when the user does not know what they are getting into.

Agreed, which is why I stated in my first post to make a registry backup before any reg cleaner is used. Ccleaner does prompt you to make a backup.

Above and beyond all that, it's a myth that reg cleaners will improve system performance. In theory, a reg cleaner will increase the speed of some aspects of the operating system. However, this increase is measured in milliseconds. Therefore, in practice there is no noticable speed increase. Ditto for hard disk defragmentation.
