I have a startup issue with my win98se system, each time it shows the background colour of the desktop a explorer.exe error comes up with the ok/details option but it doesnt go anywhere from there.
Could anyone offer a simple solution by any chance

You may need to restore this file. if you have you operating cd for windows put it in the cd rom, go to start, run, type sfc, ok. select extract one file, enter its name: explorer.exe and click start. in the restore from: type d:win98 or win2000 or winxp which ever applies and click ok. this should extract a copy of that file from your windows disk and restore its function.
if that does not work or you don't have the cd for your windows, shame on you, try this: start, run, sfc, ok select extract one file and type its name explorer.exe, start, in restore from: type c:\windows\options\cabs in the field and try it. the slash is not this one/ but this one \ just below back space button on upper right corner of keyboard. if this doesn't work you deleted it or if its there but doesn't work its corrupted. let you cd override it with a fresh copy, if you don't have cd you need a fresh copy of this file. you will have to find it on the internet. search download explorer.exe and when you find it save to your computer. you will the proceed to find the folder this belongs in. start, run c:\windows click ok. the folder appears. now, right click the explorer.exe file on your say, desktop and select copy, go to the folder now and right click and paste the file back into the folder. boom, its restore in its rightful place and a working file. You should see the problem resolved. which ever procedure works, its imperative you then go to safe mode and scan, clean, safe mode scan clean then start up normal. its sounds hard but you can do it. this won't hurt anything as you are not changing anything, just restoring the file that is not working with a fresh version that does. By the way if your webpage changed from say www.yahoo.com at start up to something else, delete the something else or select default www.yahoo.com or www.msn.com and check your favorites for sites there you didn't put there, delete them too as this is probably where the problem originated. You were hijacked. if you see trojan.bookmarker in your scans delete it or any other trojan worm. It was this worm that caused the hijacker to take control of your computer. If none of this works, you have a much more serious problem that will need a smarter guy then me to fix.

Ok, my procedures didn't work, well now you need a support company to assist you. you will need to save the error you get with a screen shot so the tech that helps you can see the error you are getting. this is simple. do your normal thing and when the error pops up press the insert print screen button, its next to the f12 button upper right corner of keyboard above delete. nothing will happen, its ok nothing was suppose to happen. go to start lower left of your screen and accessories and click on ms paint, or paint. it will open now press the ctrl button way left lower corner of keyboard and the letter v. this will load the screen shot in paint. if it says too small do you want to adjust agree. boom the screen shot shows up. remember you are in paint, so save this shot by clicking on file at top left upper corner and save as , name it sshot, save on desk top please. now close paint. pull up your email and compose your email to your tech, help this is the error I get. now attach the file of the screen shot to your email. select attach file, browse desktop, select sshot, open. the attachment will load onto your email. now email your message with the screen shot to your tech or who ever helps you. now they see what you see. do this for every error you get so they can proceed with the proper procedure. you may not know what it means but they will, and perhaps they can search the error for you on the internet with better results and tell you how to proceed with the fix. This does not solve your problem, just gives an accurate view to others what your are dealing with.
