Can't open JPG files

My Win2k system goes to Microsoft Photo Editor when I click on a jpg file, but photo editor will not open the file, it says it is an "Unknown File Format". I also tried to open the files with MS Paint, but I get the message, "Cannot open this file. This is not a bitmap file, or it's format is not currently supported". This happens on all jpg files, not just a certain file or set of files. I have a trial copy of SuperJPG, and this opens the files without a problem.

The two programs you mentioned do not work with Jpeg files. Both only deal with bitmat files. It's just a matter of opening a file with the correct program. It's the same as trying to open a real media file (.rm) with windows media player.

I found this microsoft KB about it. You probably have a newer version of the Microsoft Photo Editor installed. I would just stick to using the program that renegade suggested. It's one of the better one's out there.

Paint and Photo-editor both require external filters to be able to open jpeg files. These are usually installed when you install Office. Does one of these PCs have MS Office and one not?
