Page FAult

I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware issue.

I have a 1gb amstrad mp3 player and when I hook it up to usb it shows up as a removable disk drive and works fine. But if I disconnect it (stopped first), then reconnect it I get an error, "page fault in nopaged area". I've been doing searches for that for the last couple of days and it seems to have a lot of different causes with no real remedies. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi there. How long are you leaving between the disconnect and reconnect?
Is there any device specific software running - did the player come with a software/driver disk or is it just using standard in-built Windows drivers?

Monitor task manager - processes to see if you can see the application/process that is being used as you plug in, stop, unplug and reconnect.
Hint: From Task manager go View>Select Columns and you can add the PageFaults column to the display

The first time I did it It was about 30 minutes between connects.

It came with some partitioning software that I havent used but I did install it. the cd had windows 98 driver, but I'm running win 2k. When Its running I go to the driver area and it says that the current driver suitable.

would it hurt to install the 98 driver?

When I get the page fault its on the blue screen. if I'm looking in task manager I wont see anything in the pagefault field right.

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You install Microsoft Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4). Then, you switch the FAT file system-based removable media that is currently in the computer. In this scenario, you receive a Stop error message that is similar to the following:
STOP 0x00000050 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
Page Fault in Non-Paged Area
Note The parameter values may vary.

For example, this problem may occur when you remove a floppy disk, insert a new floppy disk, and then try to read the new floppy disk. This problem may occur with any removable media that has a FAT file system format.

CAUSE
This problem is caused by a bug in the version of the FastFat.sys file that is distributed in Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4.

RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
