Pentium 1, 100Mhz
Hard Drive: 4910MB (so says fdisk)

It does not have an option to boot from CD, so I boot from floppy and fdisk and make a partition (yes it is the only one and active), I run the setup.exe from the CD via the DOS boot disk and it starts the normal check and it says "windows setup requires 7340032 bytes availa" and stay on that message.....I was having other install problems but now I have this one.....if it had 98 on it before why do I now get this error???

How do I get it to install? Should I just say skrew it and put 95 on it? It had 98 before but something messed up and it was formatted......it is not mine, it is a friends that is at vo-tech and I'm trying to fix it for him, I only have 1 1/2 weeks of school left and I want to fix this before leaving

Howdy:

After you used fdisk to partition, did you format it??

I try to do a format command but it won't let me, I'm not sure of the error, I will check tomm.....but the thing is that 98 is telling me it needs 7.3GB of space......um, the comp had 98 on it before and fdisk says the HD is only 4.9GB

You can't run the setup command until you run a format c: command after you set a primary DOS partition.. You DID set a Primary DOS partition when you fdisked didn't you??

Yes I do remember setting up the PRI DOS but it still gave me that error

And you did that AFTER you removed all partitions first including the original Primary DOS partition??

Okay.. that sounds like you went through the proper steps..

Have you booted into BIOS (setup) and made sure the on-board av program is disabled??

Also, where did you get your boot floppy from??

As you mentioned in your first post, you had other install issues first, what were they??

Lastly, what prompted you to re-install??

OK got past first problem....now a new one....98 begins scandisk before install and gets tons of errors, I tell it to fix all then blah blah must scan again, more errors blah blah scan again more errors scan again.......ok what do I do now that it keeps going in this loop?

What are the errors??

What did you do to get past the "windows requires" problem??

Off-hand, I would say the hdd is so corrupted it is useless..

On-board anti-virus and, please clarify which questions you are answering.. as it stands, your reply here makes no sense at all!!

Also, really makes no difference if it worked before as it isn't working now is it!!

I was answering your questions in the order you asked them......

http://www.dataclinic.co.uk/scandisk-sml.jpg

the first three checks on the list in that pic give errors and say "fixed" next to them.....I don't know the exact errors tho

during the "file system" check it says it has found lost clusters that were directories at one time and they have been restored, and that it must scan again

and I have no idea what I did to get past the "windows requires problem" just kept messing with format and all that crap and tada it decided to work like it did last week

Then, you keep letting it scan and rescan until all corrupted sectors have been locked out..

You could end up with a VERY small harddrive..

Sounds like a VERY corrupted hdd which would explain your problem getting Windows installed!!
