I had intention of searching for answers to my blue screen issue by searching prior postings and found that there was no answer due to the person who posted the question in the first place not understanding BIOS ....because he could not find it ... my question to the blue screen ( stop error screen) this laptop is WINDOWS 2000 PRO ... I know enough to use F8 to enter the BIOS... what do i do once i get to that point.... I am yet learning this however i do follow directions ... please advise as to what do i look for to check things over and do a CHDSK.if this is possible.. where do i go on the screen once i have entered BIOS? Nothing was added or removed from the laptop at anypoint like game controllers, added programs... perhaps it is a virus... which ever the case I am seeking assistance to further instruction as to what to do after i have pressed F8 and what to do after that point.

Thanks!
your assistance would be greatly appreciated

You haven't actually told us what type of stop message you are getting. There are several that you could get. What we need is the complete stop message. Most follow the format:

STOP: 0x000000xx (0xParameter_1, 0xParameter_2, 0xParameter_3, 0xParameter_4)
CAPITOL MESSAGE WITH IMPORTANT INFO

The next time it occurs write down everything on the screen and post it here. Depending on the stop message you may not have to go into your BIOS and change things.
