Well I have had Windoes Media Player 11 for 15mins.
I can honestly say from what I have seen so far its the best player I have ever used.
When you install go on advanced and make sure you tell it not to add protection for your music.
Then its amazing, all my old plugins are compatable and they have added them selves into media player 11.
The layout is beautiful, all the album are desplayed in full.

F*** iTunes it was crp any way this is amazing.

Its stable as well, from what I can see, I recomend you all download it.

I would but I can't. WMP 8 is about all I can get at the moment because of my OS. But my WMP does very nice indeed as it stands.

Well I am a big media player classic fan.
I went through a phase of playing every thing on it.
But that was because I hated WMP 10 it was awful.
It had loads of little annoying bits that just did your head in.

But this is something special, it’s a taste of vista and I love it.

What OS are you on Nick? 98?

This program is quite a step in the right direction. The interface is much improved. And yes, make sure you do the custom install.

For those that don't have it (like myself):

Doesn't look so pretty. I think I'll stick to Winamp (for audio) and VLC (for video). I'd try it out, but I don't have any testing PCs to break (they're all production PCs).

I'm yet to find a non-drmed file that didn't run in media player classic. can't really think of any features I miss either, except streem ripping.

Now could a MPC to WMP11 tell me why I should move back to M$?

Nice way of letting users know it is a beta product and could trash your OS. But then again you know where to go crying to get help...........CTH;)

I barely trust MS products when they're final releases, let alone when they're beta (yes, that's coming from a dedicated Windows user). That's one of the reasons I'll be waiting at least several months before putting any Vista-generation MS wares on my PCs. I especially don't like the part with all the new DRM and anonymous (?) usage reporting - is that something that can be disabled in the Vista-integrated version of WMP11? I also feel sorry for Joe Average User, who gets his PC with no idea about all the DRM restrictions and usage reporting.

Now could a MPC to WMP11 tell me why I should move back to M$? If you only use your player to play the occasional download or few songs/albums, then mpc the best player by far.
But I have 3157 songs and 153 videos in my collection.
Its hard to manage so media player 11 made it really easy to keep track.
I still manage my music by moving the folders around, and copy and pasting for back up.
But wmp11 makes it nice and easy to find a song quickly.

I don't trust M$ either, the IE7 beta was appalling.
But mp11 is more stable than 10 was, 10 used to f*** up if you tried to shut down your system while playing music.

In my opinion DRM is more damaging to the music industy than p2p.
If DRM was none existent if I herd a song on the radio I liked I would go and download it.
Because of DRM if I hear a song I like, I will go on msn and pester people to download the song of p2p and then send it me.
Then in a week or two I always buy the album any way.
But if they didn’t have DRM they would get the extra 70p off my for when I download the song.

So you say the redeeming feature of WMP11 is the music library? I can definitely do without it then. All my files have proper meta-tags and an appropriate file name/directory convention; and of course I used several playlists to group it all together. If I need anything more advanced than that, I use TagScanner (http://xdev.narod.ru/tagscan_e.htm) for batch operations, or program it myself if necessary (which is rare). No DRM, no usage reporting, complete portability, and backup/synchronizing is dead simple.

All my files have meta-tags that I have put in.
Well looking at it like that its just the new look that it is worth upgrading for. I do have to say though even though its a beta is hasnt crashed 'yet'.
WMP10 crashed atleast once a week.

Looking at it now the only features I use are libray and rip music.
The rest are pointless really.
I copy and paste music to my mp3 player so I dont need sync.
I use CD burner 3 for burning.
And I have allready said why I don't use online stores.

Right I have just set MPC up as my default player.
I will have a week test of just using MPC.
If it goes ok, I will move back to MPC for good.
