If you're getting the password almost immediately when the computer begins to boot up, it may be a BIOS password.
If that's the case, turning off and unplugging the computer, opening the case and removing the motherboard battery (looks like a large watch battery) for a few minutes should "erase" the current settings on the BIOS, including the password.
Put the battery back in, fire the computer up and tell it to "Reset to Default" if it asks and see if it boots into Windows.

odd, however this sounds a bit fishy to me(your post) :( no virus as yet I know of can do this, nor any automation as this has to be hand done by a human.
but you state it sat for a bit after you moved, when this has happened, and before you moved it and turned it off this never did happen....
This sounds like a typical THEFT scenerio to me. However there are several other innocent reasons for this to happen i suppose..but only THEFT comes into mind the way you iniated/began and writting, using those words to write this topic...

I agree. Bios passwords don't just suddenly appear.:dizzy: A force of at least one has to be at the controls.

Yes, and if an anti-theft feature has kicked in, the computer is now a doorstop anyway. If it's a laptop, trying to remove the motherboard battery will complete the job.
