Use encription. WPA is prob the best, then 128 bit WEP and lastly 64 bit WEP.

Open up your router config by entering 192.168.1.1 into internet explorer. User name and password is admin and admin.

Click on the wireless tab and then click on security. Choose WPA if available. If not choose 128 bit WEP. Then enter either a passphrase for WPA or generate a hexidecimal code for WEP. Save it. Now when you go to view wireless networks in range or use your wiress adapter software your network should show as "protected" and will be password enabled.

Just remember with WEP write down the hexidecimal code and not the password you used to generate it.

You could further secure your linksys router by using wireless mac address filtering. You could also hide your routers SSID which would mean you would manually have to enter it for your pc to find it. Just encripting the router should be sufficient for general use though.
