Home network with a mix of XP Pro's, W98, and whatever else happens to be plugged in at the moment (XP MCE, WinME, etc.). All connected through a Linksys wireless router on a 3Meg cable connection. Here's my question:
Often, when I reboot the router, the little 2-monitor icon in my task tray says 'Aquiring Network Address' for hours. I can surf at normal speeds, and have no problems at all - but why the 'aquiring' routine?

Using DHCP or Static IPs?

Thats weird, especially if the internet and network is working ok. Have you tried doing ip config during this problem to see if the pc has a valid ip address? (which it should have if the internet is working. Sounds more like a windows problem than a network one, if the internet and network are all working fine. Also if you go into network connections does it say connected or aquiring network address there?

DHCP.

Yes, valid address, 192.168.etc.

In Network Connections, it says aquiring network address. 11 hours later. :dizzy:

Hello zip

I sometimes have the same problem on my DSL hard-wired setup and this what I do to clear up it.will this work for Cable hardwired/wireless,I dont know

Go here (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) and download ATF cleaner.
Use it to remove all Temp Files, Cookies and Temp Internet Files and any others that you would like to remove.Click on the downloaded file to run it, and select "Select All", then click Empty Selected and repeat process till ATF cleaner has freed 0 bytes (and close ATF).

If you also use Opera or Firefox, also click on the cleaning options for each browser

Then this
Rclic on the 2-monitor icon and click Repair and it should go thro the repair process, when finish close window

Post back if this works.ok

That's a nifty little cleaner, T :).

Did as suggested. Manually released/renewed as well. Nada.

I'm getting about 2.97 on a 3.meg connection, so it's just that tiny bit of Windows has lost it's mind.

10:28 on May 29th, several turn-off's & reboots later, still aquiring an IP address.
But at 468.754 Mbps, I ain't complaining. Just wondering.
