Hi, I'm Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I have windows 98SE and recently went to the Microsoft site and downloaded Security Update for microsoft Data Access Componets 2.8 {KB911562}. Now I can't get a few of my programs to run. This is the message I get when I try to run Paperport or my scanner:

PAPRPORT caused an invalid page fault in
module RPCRT4.DLL at 016f:7fbd0894.

Another Program I get runtime errors 91 and 364. I have tried the uninstall/reinstall of these programs with no luck.

Anyone have any Idea's how I can fix this problem?

Thanks

After doing any of the following, always reboot your system.:fyi:
Try removing the update via add/remove programs option.
If your programs now work correctly, then the update is causing the glitch.
If you still have a problem with those apps, possibly setting your registry back a day or two may solve your problem.
Boot to pure dos and at the c: prompt type scanreg/restore
Choose a date before or date of your update and restore it.
See if that helps you.
Let us know.

The update is not in the add/remove program and when I tried scanreg/restore I couldn't go back far enough :hmm:

Anything else I can try?

Thanks

See if this is the same you updated: MDAC 2.8 SP1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=78cac895-efc2-4f8e-a9e0-3a1afbd5922e&DisplayLang=en)
After you run the verification, download and run this.
This is one reason I rarely do any M$ updates. More trouble than they are worth.

Did it. I'm not sure what it did, but still getting the same message as in my first post. Maybe I really screwed something up :dizzy:

Thanks

Boot to pure dos and at the c: prompt type "scanreg /fix" without the quotes (i copied some of Nick's sentence since U already know how to get to the Command prompt... :)

I must say my computer is running pretty smooth now  Is there a chance that something is missing in my registry? If so is there somewhere I can look to see what should be in there?

Thanks

Running smooth is good.
I looked around and found some older chats about same prob.
Reinstall helped one and another never posted back.
Maybe try downloading this DLL (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?rpcrt4) and replacing yours.

Try this link on instruction on extracting a new copy of your dll

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315209

Mike, I don't have a CD to extract from.

Preform a search of your own hard drive for this file.

precopy1.cab and this file win98_22.cab

If you find both of these files in the same folder then someone save a copy of a version of windows original setup disk to your hard drive. Use this location to copy from with the extract method mentioned in previous message.

If you can not find these files on your hard drive then you can use someone else WIN98SE disk to extract the files.

Remember that Microsoft will no longer support win 98 after 10 july 2006.

I hope this helps
