Linux

I found this distribution of linux called knoppix. It says to enable boot from cd in the bios. What section in the bois would this be under?(like it has different menus, or is this different on every computer) OR if there is a knowledgeable person out there how do i create a floppy boot disc, it says it can be done.

It means make the boot priority have the cr-rom first in the sequence.
It's a setting in the bios and different bios type name it a bit differently.
A,C,D
C,Floppy,CD-ROM
etc.

So it's asking you to make sure it's
CD-ROM,C,Floppy
or
CD-ROM,Floppy,C

For boot disks you can go HERE to get most of the flavours that you want. There are a few Linux boot disks here as well. If you use your favorite search engine for a bit of research on your own for Linux Bootdisks, you'll find numerous sites that'll give you instructions on building them. The Linux sites such as Mandrake etc should also be able to provide you that info.

Ahh, thanks what you said about the boot sequence worked (though i figured it out before i read this, thanks though)

I downloaded a distribution of Linux called Knoppix, it runs almost completely off a cd. It comes with open office (office software compatible with microsoft office) and quite a bit of other software.
You can get it at http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html

Good to experiment with linux

(for those begnners when it boots you have to type knoppix desktop to get to the desktop then everything after that the gui speaks for itself. (Note: Doesn't actually talk) I encourage you all to try it. Also make sure you download the english version (unless you can understand french or german)
To read the faqs on the site you may have to use google to translate them.

What are the chances of Knoppix running OK on my laptop which came with XP Home (NTFS formatted)? I was thinking that I could try it instead of repartitioning the drive.
I was thinking that, if possible, I could use my USB drive to store files on - it works fine on the SuSE Linux box.

I've started downloading Knoppix but I think it might be better to buy a copy from somewhere, at present its got 92 hours to go
