This is my first post here so let me know if there's any rules I don't follow.
I'm trying to fix a PC for a friend of mine. He told me that it started freezing after he got a cable modem. The system is a Celeron 533mhz, w/ 128M RAM. He was connecting to his cable modem through the USB port. At first I thought that was the problem so I put an ethernet card in and it still froze. then I thought maybe it was the RAM so I took out a 64M chip and put in a 128M. It still froze. I then reformatted a 20gig HD I had laying around and put that in with win98. Now it gives me a blue screen whenever I try to install downloaded software but I can pretty much browse the internet freely without any complications. Also, there isn't a fan on his case, only a CPU fan. So I've been blowing a big upright fan into the case and it still gives me the blue screen. Any Suggestions? |

Sounds like his cable modem was having a major conflict with another piece of hardware. Might be able to help you figure that one out if you still have the other hard drive the way it was....
As for the blue screen... Are you getting an Error message with it? IF so then write down the exact error message and we will see if we can help you figure out what the problem is. by the way, Welcome to cybertech.. |

Is win98 all updated 2-the-max?

well, it was freezing up on my cable modem too. It stopped freezing but I had still gotten the blue screen until I took out the new RAM chip I had and put in the original RAM...now it seems to run fine. It was a brand new RAM chip too :-|
