The error is caused by the cluster size being invalid in relation to the size of the partition. It generally happens if you use a ghostlike app to clone a smaller disk onto a larger one, and the cluster size of the smaller one is carried over.

Options are to recreate and reload the partition, or use a program like Partition Magic to resize the clusters.

On a 80GB partition, the cluster size should be 32KB.

If you decide to go through the recreation and reloading of the drive, seriously consider partitioning that 80GBs into more manageable chunks.

I assume that you're referring to NTFS, and it wouldn't work out too well if you're only planning on using the WIN98 operating system......your WIN98 (FAT32) partition would not be able to access the NTFS partition. Now, if you're planning on running a dual-boot system with WIN98 on one partition and WIN2K or WINXP on the other partition, then you could install WIN2K or WINXP on the NTFS partition......you could access the WIN98 partition from the NTFS partition, but not vice versa.
If you want the second partition to be just a logical drive (i.e., for data only, no operating system), then format it FAT32.

Your cluster size for 40G chunk would be 32kb
