Error in exe file?

Appreciate some assistance.

Have a PC, that when re-started in MS-DOS mode shows the following at the top of the black screen:

C:\>C:\WINDOWS\CWDINIT.EXE /A
Error in EXE file

Did a search in the Registry for anything with CWDINIT.exe, but came up blank.

Config.sys and Autoexec.bat are also empty.



Any ideas on how to get rid of this entry?

Check to see if you have a dosstart.bat file (probably in the C:\Windows directoy, if it exists) and open it in Notepad. See if there is a reference to C:\WINDOWS\CWDINIT.EXE /A

I believe this file belongs to Crystal Audio ...do you have a Crystal Audio sound card or onboard sound?

You are right on target!

Used to have a Crystal Audio Sound Card on the PC a while back, but no longer have it.

Renamed the dosstart.bat to dosstart.old, and the entry finally went away. :D
